Card Concept #2

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

It is time for the second Card Concept Challenge!

The theme for this first week is a to use texture on your card.

When I saw the challenge, I immediately thought of the little Perler beads that my daughter and I have been playing with lately. They have the neatest texture, and I had already thought of using some of our little creations on a card. So this challenge was the perfect opportunity!

My card is created in my style which is clean and layered.

clean lines
lots of layers
designer papers/embossing
embellishments/accents
clean and fresh looking
some colored images at times
white space

You can read all about the different styles for this challenge here.

I first created the little wreath of flowers with my Perler beads. I have to tell you, these things are SO much fun to play with! I remember having some when I was a kid and I also did them with Kaylea when she was little. I hadn't thought about them in years, until I was browsing Pinterest the other morning and saw some really neat Christmas tree ornaments made with them. I was totally mesmerized by them, and proceeded to order some immediately. That was what I was so impatiently waiting for the UPS man to bring during the snow and ice. They come in over 50 different colors! Here is a peek of some of my little boxes where I've organized them all.

If you are not familiar with Perler beads and don't know how they work, you just put the beads on little peg boards. I use tweezers because it's kind of hard to do with your fingers. When you have your design like you want it, you just put ironing paper or parchment paper over the design and iron it. All the beads melt together to form a solid design. It's super fun!!

Okay, on to the rest of my card... I cut the heart doily out with a die from My Favorite Things and adhered it to the base card. I adhered my Perler wreath to the doily with score tape, added the small doily ( My Favorite Things ) and the heart ( Papertrey Ink) with foam tape. The sentiment ( WPlus9) is stamped on a die banner from My Favorite Things.

I hope that you will join us for the challenge at The Card Concept! There are lots of fun styles you can try out if you're not sure what style you prefer, or just jump right in if you already know!

Check out what the other fabulous design team members have created!

  10. Kay, your card is jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring beautiful! I've not seen such beads before, and can certainly see why you were waiting for the mail to arrive. These are fabulous place on your card - and the concept of arranging and ironing, well that's just soooo cool! My niece, nearly four, would LOVE to make things with these. Can they be left 'as is' for bracelets or necklaces? They obviously work marvelously for cards, so I'm guessing yes! WOW x WOW with this card. LOVE it (and especially love that there's a mom+daughter connection with them, too!
