Classic Holiday Inspirations

Hello and welcome to the second group post for the September  Papertrey Ink  Release! The new products you are seeing here will be available in the store at Papertrey Ink on September 15th at 10:00 EST!

Today is all about nostalgia and reminiscing of Christmas's past. We have a beautiful new stamp set from Betsy called Winter Village, that looks just like the beautiful winter images you see on the old Vintage Christmas cards. It is so pretty! And we also have an adorable new set from Nichole called Christmas Critters, that brings back such fond memories of being read The Night before Christmas by my parents and grandparents.

I have a couple of old photos to share with you :)

Wow! That was a long time ago people! :) The one on the left, is my Dad holding me and my two brothers. This was taken on Christmas eve. We were getting all ready for Santa :)
The picture on the right is my Grandfather holding me, and reading to me and my two brothers The Night Before Christmas. Believe it or not, I still have this very same book and have read it to my Children every Christmas. Well maybe not the last couple, because they're teens now, and for some reason, think it's weird for me to read to them?? Anyway, I love Christmas time. It's my favorite time of year, and I have wonderful memories of Christmas growing up.

Oh doesn't that make you love wintertime? Beautiful white snow and a cozy fire in the warm house! Looking forward to that while I sit here and make Christmas cards in the 90 degree heat and humidity! haha! A girl can dream can't she? Seriously this is a gorgeous set! There are two little houses and a sweet church, along with little trees, fences, and everything you need to create beautiful winter cards! The sentiments are lovely too! I cut out a mask with just some copy paper and sponged over that to create a white hill for my scene. I stamped the bare trees right on the card, then everything else I stamped, die cut, and adhered with foam tape.

I have big plans for this set! It's one I will want to spend a week or two with to really get to know!

Look at that little mouse! Isn't that the cutest? I just love his little scarf! I decided I needed to make a tag with this cute set. I used the Tag Sale: Quilted die and I also used the frame from the Don't Forget to Write Make it Market kit. It's perfect for Christmas projects, because it's got those nifty stripes like candy canes! :) I stamped the little mouse in Stormy Sea and used Pure Poppy for the reds. I decided to go with the traditional bright red and green for this one. I blended some Aqua Mist onto the background before adhering the frame.

The mouse and present were adhered with foam tape, the candy canes and holly leaves I glued flat down to the frame. I added some Baker's twine at the top.

  1. Ooh, thanks for sharing those Christmas photos. Reminds me of photos when I was growing up. Sweet! And your card and tag are fantastic, Kay. That first one definitely has the vintage Christmas card vibe! I can see you doing great things with a set like this and this first card is fabulous. It's the details! The bare trees and the inking of the background. You are so smart! The tag is adorable. I don't like mice and I think this one is kinda cute. Again, the details really make the tag shine! Terrific work, Kay! Hopefully it's starting to cool off a bit for you! Hugs!

  18. Hi Kay,

Even as a kid you were cute as a button! OK, I disagree with you, reading to your teens is not weird, then again them rolling their eyes or not giving you a smart remark...now THAT would be WEIRD!
I will re-post what I wrote Betsy....The cards as well as the memories....PRICELESS!!!

  19. Kay these are all so wonderful. I love your wonderful Winter Village cards, so timeless and the photos bring back so many memories! Your mice are as cute as a button and I love the tag and frames that you brought together for this. Hope things cool down a bit for you, it is still pretty warm here but the evenings are cooler and this morning I had to actually turn on the heat just to take the chill off.
