I have wanted to have my own stamp line for years. I actually started designing some over 16 years ago before my kids were born. I had the designs all drawn out, and had sent them to the manufacturer, and they had been made into rubber. This was back before the clear stamps. I had them all cut out and my husband was cutting wood blocks for me to mount them on. My dream was to have my own stamp business and travel to all of the Stamp shows. Well, low and behold I found out I was pregnant :) That pretty much put a halt to my production. I was afraid to use all of the chemicals to glue the stamps down, and to be honest, I was way more excited about this baby than my dream of having my own stamp company. Soooo fast forward about 17 years later to now! That baby is now 16, driving and playing golf, and along with him is my girl who is 14 and makes me laugh all day long. AND I now have my first two sets of stamps out! Wow! And with Papertrey Ink! I could not be more thrilled! So a huge thanks to Papertrey Ink for this most amazing opportunity!
Okay enough of my reminiscing, I have a couple of cards to share with you featuring one of my sets called Spooky Smiles. The little characters I have drawn look very much like the little clay creations I make too. I love cute and whimsical designs!
For this one, I used Distress ink and blended a dark circle onto my white background. All of the little characters were colored with Copic markers and cut out with the matching dies. I embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder and cut it out with a banner die, then I added it and the stamps all with foam tape.
I added a few white dots to the background with some white acrylic paint and lastly a few clear PPP sequins.
STAMPS: Spooky Smiles
DIES: Spooky Smiles, Moments Inked Planner Banner Dies
PAPER: Stampers Select White, Smokey Shadow
OTHER: Distress Ink, White Embossing Powder, Copic Markers

When I created this set, I wanted it to be versatile, and to be able to be used for more than just Halloween cards. I colored the little kitty in orange tones and I hid the pumpkin's face with the kitty. I added the leaves in fall colors, and used the Pumpkin Weather is Here sentiment to create a cute fall card. The background is Distress ink blended onto watercolor paper and then speckled with water and more of the red ink.

Kay, your story of 'a dream deferred' reminds me of a line from one of my favourite books, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coeho, that reads: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." Though it took you several years (during which incredibly awesome things were happening, too), your dream has come to fruition. The timing is perfect for your to embrace this journey...and embrace it you have, with the most adorable Halloween-themed products I have EVER seen! Trust me: I have scoured blog-land for 'cute Halloween" images, and my research finds yours the BEST! Cute AND classy, as is your signature style. Your showcases are outstanding! My heart is smiling for you...and us *grin*

ReplyDeleteLove a great story about dreams coming true, and yours is no exception. Have you been following the Olympics at all? Swimmer Ryan Murphy created a booklet for his class project about his love for swimming when he was 8 (now 21) and his high hopes of being an Olympian just earned a gold medal Monday night. Patience is definitely a virtue and you've got it. So proud of you, Kay! Love everything you create. ❤️
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Kay. It must be very exciting. The stamps are super cute.
ReplyDeleteKay, I couldn't be happier for you my friend! I suspected this was what was happening "mid August", but I certainly had no idea this was a dream that began so many years ago. You have such a gift and I wish you tremendous success with this new endeavor!
