Hello and welcome to the second group post for the July Papertrey Ink Release! The new products you are seeing here will be available in the store at Papertrey Ink on July 15th at 10:00 EST.
I am head over hills in love with the new products we are showcasing today! I absolutely love tropical and beachy themed stuff! Flamingos have been a favorite of mine since I was very young.
We're showing off two beautiful new summertime sets today: Some Like It Hot, by Nichole, which has the lovely flamingo and hibiscus in it, and Tropics, by Maile, with the gorgeous palm fronds and tropical leaves.
My first card was created with stamps and dies from Some Like it Hot. I first watercolored a background on watercolor paper using Peerless watercolors. I ran a strip of paper down the side from the Woodblock Prints paper pack. This paper goes super with these tropical themed sets! I cut off about an inch of the watercolored piece, then mounted it over the patterned paper. I stamped the flamingo, flowers and leaves, cut them out with the matching dies, and added them to my card with foam tape. I added a few sequins for a little tropical sparkle!
I also added a few small white dots with some acrylic paint, and stamped the sentiment from the new Keep It Simple: Missing You sentiments.
STAMPS: Some Like It Hot, Keep It Simple: Missing You
DIES: Some Like it Hot
INK: Berry Sorbet, Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avacodo
PAPER: Stampers Select White, Woodblock Prints paper pack

My next card uses lots of greenery from Maile's new Tropics set, along with the pineapple and a few flowers from Some Like it Hot. I also had to use another piece of paper from the Woodblock Prints paper pack. I cut the patterned paper off at a diagonal before glueing it down to my card base. I stamped all of the greenery and flowers, cut them out, then adhered some down flat with liquid glue, then popped the pineapple and some of the flowers up with foam tape.
I stamped the sentiment from Tropics in True Black ink then layered it three times and glued it down to the pineapple. I added some tiny green dots around the leaves with a green marker and then added a few sequins.
STAMPS: Tropics, Some Like it Hot
DIES: Tropics, Some Like it Hot
INK: Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Ripe Avacodo, Simply Chartreuse, Summer Sunrise, Scarlet Jewel
PAPER: Stampers Select white, Woodblock Prints paper pack
OTHER: Sequins

I am sure you were in heaven working with these stamps. Your flamingo card looks amazing with the blue green watercolored background and those bright tropical flowers. I like the pp on the side. So pretty! And how lovely is the card with the diagonally cut pp. Wow! Great fronds in that set. More delicate looking than I've seen before. You used those images perfectly as well. Such a summer gal! Well, except for the heat and humidity, right? Hugs!! :)

ReplyDeleteHi Kay,
ReplyDeleteLOVE your Tropical card, it is STUNNING and CHIC, without stereotyping the "Tropical Theme".
I liked very much the fact that you paired it with the DP Woodblocks, I would not have thought of that,me and my half the talent as yours!
You see what I mean about your TALENT? Even you can make Flamingos look cute, and the Hibiscus are one of my least favorite flowers, but your rendition of them is FLAWLESS!!!
I've seen your work with other flowers that have left me breathless, including these, I would like in the future to see what you can do with my favorite,Hydrangeas or Gardenias!
Well, sweetie I will close this comment to leave you basking in your GLORIOUS TALENT!!!
Cariños,
María Alba
