Hello friends!
We are totally covered here in Missouri with ice and snow! Just less than two weeks ago, we were in the 70's and I thought winter was over. Boy was I wrong! I think it just started!
Today I have a card, created with Penny Black stamps, to share that will hopefully put you in the spring mood even if you are deep in the snow and cold like we are :)
This card has kind of an interesting beginning. I had watercolored a background, just playing around, but I didn't like it. The colors I used didn't mix well and it was just kind of blah, I thought, so I threw it away. Later that day, I was thinking about cutting some die cuts out of watercolored backgrounds, and just to try a sample before cutting into something I really loved, I grabbed this dreadful thing out of the trash and used it to cut this lovely leafy branch out of. OMG!!! It was beautiful! I couldn't believe how lovely it looked cut out from what I thought was an ugly background! Well, I decided right away I had to make a card with it!
On a white panel I stamped the background leaves in Grout Grey, then I glued the watercolored leaves on top. I cut the butterflies out, added a little detail with my white gel pen, bent their wings a bit, and adhered them with foam tape. I then cut out three of the smile dies, glued them together and glued them to my panel. I adhered the whole panel to an A2 size card base with foam tape.
Almost makes you forget about winter doesn't it :)

I'm so happy you rescued this paper Kay, what a PRETTY card!!
ReplyDeleteYou can even make your trash look fabulous, Kay! LOL I'm so glad you thought to try the cut on paper you weren't in love with. Look what we would have missed! This card is so very pretty. I love the color gray in the background as well as the colors in the branch. Your butterflies are the cherry on top of this lovely creation! I'm so sorry you guys are freezing and snowy after your balmy weather. We had snow last weekend. It's going to melt this week and we'll have more snow(and more than the last storm, they claim) this weekend. Mother Nature sure can be fickle, can't she?! Stay warm and create lots!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Kay!
ReplyDeleteHey, that's sounds like one of my crazy stories! The only thing to remember about your trash an is to never put anything wet in there. It ruins your trash for later use! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card. I can't believe part of it came from your trash. I'm so glad you were able to use it. Stay warm and safe!
ReplyDeleteHehehe...so glad that you didn't keep the background in the trash for it is so lovely as a leafy branch! It's perfect against the white background next to the butterflies!
ReplyDeleteYour card is absolutely gorgeous!! And I love how you salvaged the background, it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful day and stay warm! ♥
lol Kay! I don't empty my stamp room trash every week for a reason! So fun to read your post! Gorgeous, gorgeous card! Love it!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous card - that stem/leaf branch is perfection!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It's colors like those that make me keep plugging away at using the distress inks!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! And Yes it does make me think of spring. Thank you for telling us how you made it...I love to play with my distress inks, etc. But nothing seems to come out useful... Must remember this...maybe I shouldn't have thrown away those papers I didn't like...smile.
ReplyDeleteKay your card is delightful. I pray for warmer weather your way, so much snow it is unbelievable.............We have two cyclones that have just touched land one a cat5 that thankfully Brisbane looks to just get the wet weather, flooding is the possibility here. What a crazy unpredictable world we are living in at this time!. Thank goodness for a ray of sunshine in our cardmaking <3

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm really glad you pulled your water colored panel out of the trash, because your leaves are gorgeous, Kay! I love how you stamped in the background, too! Really gorgeous card! Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteKay, I find it hard to believe you initially gave this lovely paper a toss, but I'm cheering your rescued and re-envisioned it. Stunning! Those pretty leaves (are you sure the 'full' sheet was 'that' bad? Not possible *grin*) paired with the background stamped image and butterflies..swooning! Your sentiment captures my response perfectly: smiling brightly!

I think a happy mistake is called: Serendipity! My gosh this is stunning! I am so glad you didn’t throw it away. I love it layered over the softer stamped image.

Glad you didn't throw your trash away - What a beautiful card.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely card, Kay. I've learned from quilting that sometimes a piece of the whole print is beautiful.

ReplyDeleteGlad you used your background ...funny how sometimes things look differently when used a totally new way. Gorgeous card.
