Cutting Edge Stencils

Hello friends!

I hope your week has been good!

I've been little quite on the blog for the past few days. We have a big weekend coming up with company and a wedding! My brother and his lovely fiancé are getting married this Saturday. It's a second one for them both, but I am so happy for them :) And I am taking the pictures... eeek! No pressure! I am not a professional photographer by any means, but I have loved photography and taking pictures since I was super young. I just hope the weather and the sun/light cooperate for us :) I'm a bit nervous, I'll admit, but I'm excited too :)

So I have had the wonderful opportunity recently to work with some fabulous new stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils. They have just recently started making small sized stencils which are perfect for card making. The stencils I used were 8 x 10 and worked perfect for my cards, but would be excellent for scrapbooking or larger projects too.

For my first project I used the Nagoya Stencil template. I love this pattern and I may be wrong, but I think this is the same pattern as the quilt design, Double Wedding ring. Any quilters out there can correct me if I'm wrong :)

I simply sponged a white background panel with blue ink from my ink pad. It worked wonderfully and cleaned up with a wet sponge and some water easily. The little bird on the post and the sun I cut out with my Cameo with files from Miss Kate's Cuttables. I added the detail on the post with my Copic markers. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn.

Okay, anyone who was following my blog last fall and winter may remember that I ADORE birch trees! I have bought every birch tree stamp and stencil I've ever come across. I don't know what it is about them, but I just love them! When we go on vacation out west, I take pictures of just birch trees and aspen trees and their bark! When I get home and show off my vacation photos, everyone wants to know why there are so many photos of tree trunks! haha!

Anyway, on to the card! I used the lovely Birch Forest stencil for this one. I just sponged some crumb cake ink over the stencil onto a white panel, then layered the pinecones and flowers with foam tape. I then mounted the whole thing on a natural card base. Oh I just love those trees!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I have an exciting announcement coming up tomorrow! Can't wait to share! I've been holding it in all month and I'm about to explode! haha!

Have a great day!

Hugs,

Kay :)

  9. Your photos will be fabulous, Kay! Your eye for design that we have the delight of seeing in your cards will translate perfectly to the wedding photos. And how exciting that your brother is getting married; isn't it wonderful when the people we love meet a 'match' that works? I know how I felt when my brother married my sister-in-law; so excited and I knew it would be a lasting love (and the two kiddos are proof!). Your cards here are ever so lovely; you've showcased these stencils beautifully, and the die cut pairings are perfect. Gorgeous. New news? I'm excited for you...big, big excited!!

  10. Squeal!! Kay, these cards are fantastic! It appears you are correct about the quilt reference, yay! I adore what you did with both stencils (what an exciting opportunity for you). The bird, post and sun on the first card are amazing! Love the detail. I am so happy for you that you got to show off a birch stencil, too. It looks fabulous with the pinecones and flowers. Excited to hear your big news. Congrats again on your success!

I am so happy for your families on the upcoming wedding. I have a feeling that the photos you take are going to be amazing. No pressure, but I think your eye for design and composition will do you well here. Just have fun with it. And I do hope you can share one or two.

    Have a wonderful weekend!! Hugs!

  15. Your cards are so unique Kay and each as great as the next. The stenciling looks like another fun tool but you are really tempting me with the thought of buying the Cameo.
